The vaccines pillar, also called COVAX, is co-led by Gavi, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and WHO. Its aim is to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines, and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world, contributing towards the 70% global vaccination target in 2022.
The participation of Civil society and communities on the COVAX pillar is jointly shared between the Platform and GAVI CSOs.
There are currently 8 workstreams within COVAX namely, CCM, Access/Allocation, Vaccine Strategy, Technical Review Group, Country Readiness & Delivery (Co-ordination), Country Readiness & Delivery (Communication, Advocacy, Training) Manufacturing SWAT, AMC Engagement Group and Shareholders Council. Each Workstream has reserved space for civil society and communities and there are currently 13 representatives on COVAX.
The participation and representation of civil society and communities on this pillar is jointly coordinated by Olga Golichenko, based in the UK on behalf of the Platform and Lisa Hilmi, based in the US from Core Group on behalf of Gavi CSO Constituency.
